Solar power is now helping a poultry farm in Tarlac produce food more cheaply
Producing food for our country is very important work. But for farmers, the cost of running a farm can be very high. This is especially true for poultry farms that need a lot of electricity to keep the chickens comfortable and healthy. Recently, we finished a solar project for CPF in Tarlac. We installed an 850 kilowatt solar system to help them run their farm using the power of the sun. This is a big step forward for agribusiness in the Philippines.
The challenge of farm energy
Farms in rural areas like Tarlac sometimes have problems with the power grid. The electricity can be expensive, and sometimes it goes out. For a poultry farm, losing power can be a big problem because the chickens need proper ventilation and temperature control. By using solar power, the farm can produce its own electricity right where it is needed. This reduces their dependence on the local power company and helps them save a lot of money on their monthly expenses.
In many provinces, electricity prices are even higher than in Manila. For a farm that uses a lot of fans and cooling systems, the bill can eat up most of the profit. By switching to solar, the farmer can lower the cost of producing every single egg or chicken. This makes the food cheaper for everyone in the Philippines. It is a win for the farmer and a win for the people who buy the food.
A win for the environment
Farming and the environment are closely linked. By using solar energy, CPF Tarlac is reducing its carbon footprint. They are using a renewable source of energy that doesn't run out and doesn't pollute. This is part of a global movement to make food production more sustainable. When we produce food in a way that is better for the Earth, we are protecting our future. The people who buy products from this farm can feel good knowing that it was produced using clean energy.
Using the sun is the most natural way to get energy. Plants use it to grow, and now our farms use it to run their machines. It is a cycle that makes perfect sense. By not using fossil fuels, we are keeping the air in Tarlac cleaner for the next generation of farmers. This is what we mean when we say "Smart New Energy-Saving Solutions."
How we built the system
Our engineering team worked closely with the farm managers to design the best system for their needs. We chose panels that work well even in the hot and dusty conditions of a farm. We also made sure the installation didn't interfere with the daily operations of the farm. The panels were installed on the roofs of the large chicken houses, making good use of space that was otherwise doing nothing. Now, those roofs are working hard to catch the sun and turn it into electricity.
We also installed a specialized cleaning system for the panels. On a farm, dust can settle on the glass and block the sun. Our system makes it easy to keep the panels clean so they always make as much power as possible. We also put in smart meters so the farm owner can see the savings on their phone every day. It makes managing the farm's energy as easy as checking the weather.
Economic impact
The money saved on electricity can be used for other things, like improving the farm or hiring more people. This helps the local economy in Tarlac. When businesses save money on their basic costs, they become more stable and can grow more easily. Solar power is an investment that pays for itself in just a few years. After that, the electricity it produces is basically free for the rest of the system's life, which is usually over 25 years.
Think about the long term. If a farm saves 200,000 pesos a month, that is 2.4 million pesos a year. Over 25 years, that is 60 million pesos. That is enough money to build new barns, buy better equipment, and make the farm even more successful. This is why solar is a "smart business investment" and not just a fancy gadget.
A model for other farms
We hope that other agricultural businesses in the Philippines will see what has been done in Tarlac and consider solar power for themselves. Whether it is a poultry farm, a piggery, or a processing plant, solar energy can provide a reliable and cheap source of power. At SolarPlus, we have the experience to design systems that work in the unique environment of a farm. We understand the needs of the Filipino farmer and we want to help them succeed.
We are seeing more interest from rice mills and cold storage facilities too. Anywhere that needs a lot of power during the day is a perfect place for solar. The more farms that use this technology, the more secure our country's food supply becomes. We are proud to play a small part in making Philippine agriculture stronger and more modern.
Final thoughts
The CPF Tarlac solar project is a success story for both technology and agriculture. It shows that even traditional industries can benefit from modern energy solutions. By using the sun, we can make our food systems more resilient and more affordable. This is good news for everyone in the Philippines. We look forward to powering more farms with clean energy in the coming years. Let us work together to build a brighter, greener future for our farmers.
